Ordering

Ordering is simple, choose a photograph, decide on a size, pay the deposit and your portrait will be completed and sent to you on full payment
A non returnable deposit of 30% is required before work on a portrait will commence, the full balance payable on completion.
To place an order for a portrait you will need to supply a good colour photograph. If possible, please send several pictures so that a good likeness can be achieved. Adjustments can be easily made to correct the positioning of ears or remove tack/collars. It is most important to send a photograph that clearly shows the animals eyes as this is what shows their character the most. I produce portraits from what I can see in the photograph so you need to make sure the photo is a good likeness to the animal.

Having a keen interest in photography, I have a digital SLR camera, and it is possible for me to take photographs for you to get the best photos to work from. You can bring your pet to me for photos or I can travel to you (subject to travel cost if more than 10 miles away, added to the final price)

Once you have your photographs, send them to me either digitally via email or by post. All original photographs will be returned with the completed portrait. I will complete your portrait and send you a copy for approval. If you are happy with the portrait it will be sent to you via recorded delivery once full payment has been made. No deposit is required.

Photograph tips

The  is important to send a good reference photo to work from to create your portrait.  To get a photo that will make a nice picture, distract the animal with a noise or their favourite toy.

If you are wanting a portrait of a dog, the painting will look a lot better if the dog does not have his tongue out. If a photograph of your dog with his mouth open best shows his character, try and take one with his tongue in his mouth as they do look better.  If your dog gets excited when you say a particular word say this while taking the photo as it will give them a good expression.   Horses and Cats can be difficult to photograph, try and distract them so they put their ears forwards. Try and take photos in natural light as the detail will be better and the eyes will show the colours rather than "glowing" in the artificial light.

Example of a good photo

Picture
This photograph  is clear with the dog in a desirable pose that would produce an excellent portrait. The eyes can be cearly seen and the texture of the fur.  Photos taken in natural daylight often come out a lot better, the eyes can be affected by the flash on the camera

Picture
This horse photograph would make a good portrait.  The horse has both of its ears forwards, the head is at a nice angle and all of the detail is clear

Example of a poor photo

Picture
This photograph shows a different dog in a similar, his eyes are almost closed and the sunlight is making the detail difficult to see. The photo is not blurred but it would be difficult to create a good portrait capturing the dogs character with this photograph.

Picture
This photgraph is of the same horse pictured above.  The photo was taken on a mobile phone that didnt have a high quality camera.  The horse has one ear back and hay in his mouth.  The photo is also a little too straight on, if the photo was slightly more to the side of the horse it would look better
